Lockplate markings shows a sharp spreadwinged eagle motif with the “US / SPRINGFIELD” forward of the hammer.īlack walnut stock appears never cleaned and exhibits a rich, mellow patina. Bore has strong rifling with scattered pitting. The low-arched breechblock bears the stamping “MODEL 1879”. Barrel stamped with proof marks “V / P / eaglehead / P”. The rifle’s iron surfaces wear a smooth, dark plum patina and show no remains of bluing or color casehardening with scattered pitting overall.
